Holiday Harmony // Simple and Stunning Decorating Tips

Ah yes...we LOVE Christmas! Everything about the holiday season makes home feel, well, so homey! The twinkling lights, nostalgic music and movies, and the sweet and savory aromas that fill the kitchen. It's all just so lovely. But let's face it, creating the vision of the perfect holiday home can be quite overwhelming. Trends come and go...your decor from 5 years ago suddenly clashes with what you purchased last year. How do you put it all together and make it look purposeful? Also, let's not spend days upon days doing it! Yes? Yes!

Here are just a few little tips that we hope will get you well on your way to a curated, intentional holiday vibe that looks fancy and feels easy!

// START WITH A COHESIVE COLOR PALETTE

Choose a color scheme and stick to it throughout your home. The look should move seamlessly from room to room. This instantly makes everything feel purposeful and oh so pretty. Some of our favorite color combinations...gold and cream, emerald and champagne, and dark crimson and silver.

PRO TIP // Add texture to your palette by incorporating metallics, velvets, or faux furs.

// FOCUS ON LIGHTING

Lighting is oh so crucial to the ambience of any room, regardless of the season. It may be one of the most important aspects of creating your amazing holiday spaces. Add warmth and sparkle with candles, low lit lamps, tea lights, and fairly lights woven into your mantle swag or bowl of beautiful ornaments.

PRO TIP // When it comes to your Christmas tree lights, let's make sure to avoid the dizzy and anxious feeling of fast and flashing. Instead, select a mode that gives a soft twinkle or a constant warm glow.

// PUT A CHRISTMAS TREE IN YOUR BEDROOM

Yes, you read that correctly! Trust us on this...the soft glow from the tree creates the most magical atmosphere. A nice little tree in your guest bedroom is a wonderful surprise for your holiday guests. Don't stress about decorating each and every tree if you choose to do more than one in your home. The simplicity of a beautiful tree with glowing warm lights is more than enough to evoke the holiday feeling!

PRO TIP // Use a tree skirt in velvet or faux fur (or a metallic tree collar) to elevate the look of your tree.

// SET THE TONE WITH A WREATH

After all the work we put into decorating the interior of our homes, it might be easy to forget that wonderful holiday wreath that will welcome friends and loved ones as they arrive at your front door. Be mindful to have your wreath mimic the decor of your home's interior, as it will set the tone for what your guests will experience as they enter your home.

PRO TIP // Brass bells and luxe velvet ribbons always make any wreath look like a million bucks!

We hope these little tips have you well on your way to creating a beautiful holiday aesthetic in your home. But let's not forget...creating a memorable holiday has much more to do with the love in our hearts than it does with the gifts under the tree. A gorgeous holiday moment is felt, not seen.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Urbane Interiors!
